A hotel tucked in the mountains, yet close to La Ceiba
La Villa de Soledad is in a lovely location that will give you a real feeling of being in a remote corner of Honduras. It is however, quite easily accessible, as it is only 8 km outside the city of La Ceiba.
Directions
Driving to La Villa de Soledad in your own car, the instructions are easy. If you are coming from San Pedro Sula or La Ceiba’s International airport, continue on the CA13 paved road towards the port city of Trujillo. Between Km 199 and 200 you will pass over a fairly large bridge over the Cangrejal River that is clearly marked as “Puente Saopin”.
Pico Bonito National Park Visitors Center
Go over the bridge and immediately after getting to the eastern side of it there is paved street leading into the mountains (this would be to your right) with several signs marking the “Cuenca del Cangrejal”. Take this road, which is paved for a short distance, and when the pavement finishes keep going towards your left. From here there is a short 8 km (5 mile) drive to La Villa de Soledad. As you are getting close, you will pass a few small hotels (Jungle River Lodge, Villas Pico Bonito) as well as the Visitors Center for Pico Bonito National Park, where the swinging bridge is located.
About 150 meters past the Visitor Center you will see a clearly marked sign on the left with a road leading up to the mountain. This is the entrance to La Villa de Soledad, which is just above the road! Bienvenido!!!
Getting to La Villa de Soledad
If you are beginning your journey from a bit farther away, the close city of La Ceiba, Honduras has an international airport, and is on an important paved highway that interconnects the north coast of Honduras; basically communicating the Port City of Trujillo on the northeastern coast, with the industrial city of San Pedro Sula on the northwest end of the country. It also has a port of its own from where there are daily departures by passenger ferry to the world famous islands of Utila and Roatan, both part of the Bay Islands of Honduras.
Road to La Villa de Soledad B&B – La Ceiba, Honduras
By air, from San Pedro Sula, which is the most important airport in the country, there are two airlines providing daily flights to La Ceiba, Aerolineas Sosa and Taca Regional Airlines. Both have several departures, the flying time is a short 30 minutes. The above mentioned airlines also have daily flights from La Ceiba to Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras and to Roatan, the largest of the Bay Islands that also has an international airport with service by international carriers such as Continental, Delta and Taca Airlines.
By land, highway CA13 connects La Ceiba with San Pedro Sula. The distance between both cities is only 200 km. (about 125 miles). There is outstanding bus service between both cities.
