Traveling from Dallas to La Ceiba is easier than you think! Although La Ceiba does have an international airport, the airport code is LCE, there are no international flights into La Ceiba from the USA. However, the international Airport in Roatan (RTB) does have direct, non stop service from DFW once a week, on Saturdays. This flight is truly convenient, and makes it not only easy, but also fast to get to La Ceiba. Best of all is the fact that you do not have to worry about landing in San Pedro Sula, which has a bad reputation and then try to maneuver your trip by bus or air to La Ceiba.
Travel time from Dallas to Roatan is only 3 hours, so you will be landing in La Ceiba at 2:00 p.m. local time, time enough to get through immigration and customs and then walk over to the airline counters to continue your journey to La Ceiba. There are two local airlines that provide service from Roatan to La Ceiba. One of them is Aerolineas Sosa and the other Lanhsa. Aerolineas Sosa usually uses 20 passenger airplanes and has been in business for over 25 years in Honduras with a good track record. You can check their web page for flight schedules and rates at www.aerolineasosahn.com. You can actually pre book and pay your ticket online. They are a great option to finish your flight from Dallas to La Ceiba!
Lanhsa is a younger airline, however the owners, a local family from La Ceiba has been involved in airlines for many years, and successfully sold their old business, Islena Airlines to Grupo Taca, which is now part of Avianca, so they do have a lot of experience running a small airline. Lanhsa typically has smaller aircraft. For complete information on Lanhsa check their web page at http://www.lanhsa.com/. Unfortunately, your flight will get you into Roatan to late to catch the afternoon ferry that departs from Roatan towards La Ceiba at 2:00 p.m. For information on the Roatan Ferry check out www.roatanferry.com
Of course you can also book your flight from Dallas to La Ceiba using San Pedro Sula as the gateway to Honduras and then continue on to La Ceiba. If you choose to follow this option, which operates daily, you can fly from Dallas to Houston and on to San Pedro Sula via United Airlines. Once in San Pedro Sula, you have two options to continue your trip, the first is to catch the Aerolineas Sosa flight that departs at 3:00 p.m. from San Pedro Sula to La Ceiba. Your second option is to book a bus trip from San Pedro Sula to La Ceiba. If you decide on the latter, make sure you travel with Hedman Alas, they are the premier bus company in Honduras and provide the most reliable service. Best of all, they actually have service from San Pedro Sula airport, so you do not even need to worry about hiring a local cab to take you from the airport to the bus terminal in San Pedro Sula. Happy travels to Honduras! I hope this post has been informative and helpful in assisting your planning on how to travel from Dallas to La Ceiba!
