Hotels in Pico Bonito
There is no doubt that Pico Bonito has become an important icon for the city of La Ceiba, in fact it probably is the most important icon for this city that was once the Capital of the Original Banana Republic! Pico Bonito is both a National Park and the third highest peak in Honduras, after the Cerro de las Minas and the Montana de Santa Barbara, which are the first two in that order. The Park has become one of the main attractions in La Ceiba, and little by little, a variety of Hotels in Pico Bonito have opened their doors to service tourists that want to be in touch with this lovely National Park.
Pico Bonito has its eastern limits on the Cangrejal River, a lovely, extremely scenic river that is also home to the only regular white water rafting operation in Honduras. There are three outfitters that provide service, and I fully recommend Omega Tours (www.omegatours.info) and La Moskitia Eco Aventuras (www.lamoskitia.hn) as very professional! It is precisely here, in the Cangrejal River area where you will find the larger selection of hotels in Pico Bonito.
There is a bit of everything in the area, from party hostels to pleasant guesthouses to private cabanas and boutique bed and breakfasts to luxury eco lodges. La Villa de Soledad was awarded two different certificates this year by Trip Advisor: the 2014 Certificate of Excellence and the 2014 Travelers Choice Award. It is probably the best spot to stay in Pico Bonito, and is always very well spoken about by its guests and clients. Soledad and John, the innkeepers and owners are always ready to go out of their way to please their guests and provide for a unique and cherished experience.
When deciding where you will stay in Pico Bonito, make sure that the hotel is actually in the Pico Bonito National Park area, as there are some hotels in town that use the iconic name of this park as their commercial name, and they are not even close to the park. Wherever you choose to overnight, enjoy your stay at the hotels in Pico Bonito!
